I recently attended a conference in Alicante at the Instituto Bernabeu (IB) which is one of the clinics we work with to deliver our egg donation program. I am frequently asked about the selection process and criteria so thought this week, I would delve a little more into that.
IB have 600 active donors registered with them and even have a dedicated egg donor clinic where the donor attends for all their appointments, and this clinic is separate from IB’s main IVF unit in order to maintain the donor’s privacy.
- IB donors are put through extensive selection criteria prior to being accepted as a donor where by they are screened for the following:
- Aged between 18 and 30 years old
- BMI < 28
- Physical, gynaecological and fertility history
- Family history
- Psychology assessment
- Complete blood analysis including screening for 10 infectious diseases, karyotype, cystic fibrosis, X fragile syndrome, alpha thalassemia and CGS
Only 44% of people that show an interest into becoming an egg donor with IB are accepted.
Your donor will be matched to you based on the following:
- Blood Group
- Pictures you have provided of yourself and your partner
IB guarantee the recipient 8 oocytes but with an average of 11 being collected, there is also an 89% chance that there will be embryos for freezing (this would of course be the case under your Assured plan as we guarantee you 3 embryo transfers).
IB also have an excellent success rate which is currently at 83.5% across fresh and frozen transfers.
If you do decide on IB for your egg donation treatment, you will be put in touch with a patient coordinator there and they will be your main contact for the duration of your treatment. They really do provide a very personal service and you will be greeted by your coordinator on arrival at the clinic and they will stay with you for the duration of your stay and be on hand to answer any questions you may have. I know it can be incredibly daunting travelling abroad for treatment but having personally visited the clinic on a number of occasions, and met the team, they will put your mind to rest from the start. I work very closely with the IB team to make sure the process is as seamless and stress free as possible for you.
